*Position Summary*
The Boniuk Institute for the Study and Advancement of Religious
Tolerance at Rice University is seeking a postdoctoral fellow with a PhD
in sociology, economics, or political science to begin on August 1, 2023
for an initial one-year term that is renewable for an additional year
pending excellent performance. The fellow will be housed in the Boniuk
Institute. The fellow will report to the Associate Director of Research
and the Director of the Institute, working closely with the Associate
Director of Research on the following responsibilities: 1) Quantitative
analysis of in-house national data collections leading to collaborative
publications analyzing religious discrimination, victimization, and
diversity in the workplace and society more generally, 2) collecting,
organizing, and analyzing existing survey data on religious diversity in
Houston, and 3) assisting with the development of grant proposals for
new global data collections on religious diversity, conflict, and
victimization.
In addition, the postdoctoral fellow will participate in programming and
professional development with the Boniuk Institute (and its subsidiary,
the Religion and Public Life Program). The fellow will also have the
opportunity to pursue independent research projects, including but not
limited to publishing from their dissertation or other ongoing
research.There are no teaching responsibilities associated with the
fellowship.
This position is in residence in the Boniuk Institute at Rice University.
*Minimum Requirements*
* PhD in Sociology, Political Science, or Economics with substantive
expertise in the study of race and religion, religion and
immigration, or another area related to religious pluralism and
diversity
*Skills Required*
* Proficient in Stata and/or R; able to work in SPSS as needed
* Because of the needs of the study, preference will be given to
applicants who have strong skills in statistical analysis and data
organization and management skills
*Essential Functions*
* Quantitative analysis related to religious diversity, victimization,
and discrimination
* Collects, organizes, and analyzes data on religion in Houston
* Assists with grant proposals/background research for global data
collections on religious diversity and conflict
* Works on independent research related to religion and religious
diversity broadly
* Performs all other duties as assigned
