The department



Research in the Department of Political Science and Research Methods focuses on the relationship between citizens and their government in multilevel political systems. Core topics include political behaviour, political representation and the legitimacy of government, and the innovation of democratic governance. An emphasis on research methodology is central to all our research endeavours. The department has a strong record in international comparative survey research and is strongly involved in a number of prominent international collaborative projects in the field of electoral research and political representation at the local, national, and European level. Several research projects are commissioned by government agencies and other local, national and international organizations. The Department of Political Science and Research Methods coordinates all courses in research methodology and (quantitative) data analysis for all degree programmes (BA, MA/MSc, PhD) offered by the School of Management and Governance. It is also strongly involved in the BA and MSc in Public Administration and European Studies. The department offers (jointly with the School of Behavioural Science) a 2-year Master programme on Social Systems Evaluation and Survey Research.



 



Responsibilities



You provide an important contribution to the research and teaching activities of the department, specifically in the fields of European studies, public administration and political science. Together with the head of department and the director of studies, you coordinate the department’s activities in the European studies programs. Together with the program leader of our research program, you plan, acquire, supervise, and conduct research in the field of European politics.



 



Profile



You are a creative and productive researcher and an inspiring teacher, with a strong international orientation. The field of European Politics covers the study of political processes in the European Union in their social context. Within this broad field, you are a recognized expert in one or more subfields, but you are also open for ideas and activities in other (sub)fields. As a researcher, you have a strong theoretical-empirical focus, which is also prominent in your publications. Besides maintaining and extending your national and international research networks, you will actively seek cooperation with colleagues in the School of Management and Governance, and in other Schools of the University of Twente.



 



Employment conditions



We offer a full-time tenured appointment (38 hours a week). The salary scale, depending on your experience, extends to a maximum of € 6995 gross per month (in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities), based on the job profile Full Professor level 2. In addition, the University of Twente offers additional attractive employment conditions.
