Dear Society members and friends,

It is my pleasure to announce that the winners of the Society for Political
Methodology's 2016 Statistical Software Award are Jirka Lewandowski, Sven
Regel, Nicolas Merz and Pola Lehmann of the Berlin Social Science Center
(WZB) for their manefestoR R package. The Best Statistical Software Award
recognizes individuals for developing statistical software that makes a
significant research contribution. Please join me in congratulating Jirka,
Sven, Nicolas, and Pola.

My thanks to prize committee members Mike Ward (Chair, University of
Washington), Matt Blackwell (Harvard), and Alexander Tahk (Wisconsin).
Their citation for the award follows:

"We have selected the Manifesto Project as the winner of the software award
this year. We had four nominations, including some strong contenders. This
work is very strong in that it allows easy access to a large corpus of text
on political parties in more than 50 democracies. The corpus itself is
annotated and the software allows easy access through a twitter-like API or
an R library"

A formal presentation of the award will be made at the Methodology
Section's business meeting at APSA (September 2nd at noon).

Best,

Jeff Lewis
