Durham University, Junior Research Fellowship through Centre for Institutions and Political Behaviour

Durham University's Centre for Institutions and Political Behaviour (CIPB)<https://www.dur.ac.uk/ipb/> invites applications through it for a prestigious Junior Research Fellowship at the Durham International Fellowship Scheme for Research and Enterprise.

The Centre is open to supporting exceptional candidates in all fields of quantitative empirical political science but particularly welcomes applications from candidates, which fit with either the current research interests of the Centre's Executive Committee<https://www.dur.ac.uk/ipb/members/>, or our immediate priorities for future development (including quantitative text analysis, big data, randomized control trial, or quasi-experimental evaluation).

Junior Research Fellows are expected to complete a significant piece of original research during the Fellowship, which usually lasts 2 years, although applicants can make the case for a shorter or longer period with a minimum of one and a maximum of 3 years. Applicants must have completed a PhD at the time of application and may not have been resident in the UK for more than 12months in total during the 36 month preceding July 1st, 2016. Starting salaries are in the range £31,342 - £35,256 per annum.

To express an interest in applying through the CIPB should submit to the centre director, Dr Gidon Cohen ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) before 13 November 2015 a statement of interest indicating their fit with the CIPB, a current CV, and a research proposal of 500-1000 words. Please note that these dates are in advance of the advertised closing date of the scheme to allow collaboration in the development of a strategic case for support.

Support (incl. Proformas): The scheme often attracts over 400 applications. JRF positions are limited in number and are highly competitive.

Residency: To be eligible, in line with the terms of funding set by Marie Curie, "researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not taken into account". The reference date is 1 July 2017.

Upper Experience Level: An upper limit of 5 years postdoc experience (career breaks, military service, family leave etc. are, however, taken into account).

Lower Experience Level:

Applicants following standard academic career paths must have successfully defended their thesis (i.e. minor corrections only) by the closing date for applications. Our FAQs / Further Particulars define this in further detail. A number of supported applicants are always rejected owing to not holding a PhD.
