Hello PolMeth community!

UNC at Chapel Hill is looking to hire---on a quick timeline---a TAP in Political Methodology to help us teach our "Data in Politics" undergraduate sequence. Undergraduate methods training at Carolina is a a two semester experience wherein UNC undergraduates receive a rigorous introduction to quantitative methods in the social sciences using R.

You can read a bit more about the position below, but I'll just say that we are excited to welcome a colleague into our department who will continue the careful work that Lucy Martin and Tim Ryan have been doing over the past few years to craft an undergraduate methods curriculum that relies heavily on active learning techniques---efforts that have resulted in explosive demand for the courses: just last year, we filled ten 45-person sections before running out of available instructors.

We think this position would be attractive to folks (including ABDs and recent Ph.D. graduates) who have discovered a passion for teaching modern empirical techniques in Political Science. UNC students are eager and fantastic. Additionally, our department treats its teaching faculty well: we expect the position to be indefinitely renewable, it comes with benefits and opportunities for advancement within UNC’s rank structure for teaching faculty, and we are intentional in involving our teaching faculty into the department’s governance and social life. As the position notes, the starting salary is up to $80,000.

I’m pasting the position description below. It is also available on APSA ejobs<https://apsanet.org/CAREERS/eJobs/eJobs-Online/JBctl/ViewJob/JobID/13221>. The application portal is available here<https://unc.peopleadmin.com/postings/275379>, though note that the description below (which is the same as on APSA) is better matches what the search committee is looking for than the brief description in the application portal.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me, Lucy, or Tim with any questions. The person who accepts this position will be filling a role in the Political Science Department that everyone really values, so we’re hoping to find someone outstanding.

Best,

SO
