City University London is looking to appoint a Professor and Director of
the Centre for Comparative Social Surveys (CCSS). The Director of the CCSS
will assume the academic and strategic leadership of the Centre and will
work closely with the Director of the ESS and later the Director of the
ERIC. The CCSS Director will have and expect to develop an academic track
record of publications, including papers on cross-national survey methods,
likely to be assessed as world-leading or internationally-excellent in the
forthcoming Research Excellence Framework. He or she will be expected to
promote the widest possible use of ESS data and methodology, as well as
bringing experience of other survey projects to bear in augmenting the
current scope of the Centre. Prior experience of managing both staff and

leadership skills, an established track record as a social scientist and
considerable experience in cross-national survey research. They will have
internationally-excellent publications in quantitative social science
