As the co-chair of the political communications and media section, let
me take the opportunity to second Wendy's email.

The Southern was growing rapidly, to the point where it was rivaling the
Midwest as a "must do" conference each year. The move to New Orleans
was a success. Unfortunately, natural disasters tend to change things,
and the impact on the Southern has been fairly serious. Submissions are
down significantly.

The Library Association just had its conference in New Orleans and it
went well. The French Quarter is completely up and running, as is all
of downtown. yes, there are very serious issues that the City will be
facing for decades, but candidly, these won't impact your convention
experience. I'd like to urge you to help the City rebuild, but if that
appeal doesn't work, just keep in mind that the weather in January in
Louisiana is mild and dry, the cafe au lait is on the pot, and the
beignets are hot!
