Data Analyst
Job location: Columbus, Ohio

SEIU/District 1199 seeks a person with strong technical & numerical
skills to join a team of research analysts doing ground-breaking
analysis of health care data in an effort to bring increased
accountability to the health care industry. It is our experience and
expectation that the work of this team drives significant policy and
funding changes in the industry.

This data analyst will be responsible for analyzing large (GB-TB)
datasets using relational database and statistical software tools as
well as maintaining and improving existing database systems (acquiring
and importing new datasets, pioneering the use of new software, and
administering hardware). It is expected that this data analyst will
quickly learn to take responsibility for both the idea side and the
execution side of projects. The data analyst will work closely with
experienced staff.

SEIU/District 1199 is a union of 30,000 health care and social service
workers in Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Nationally, SEIU is the
largest and fastest growing union, 1.8 million members strong. All of
the work performed by the data analyst will be part of large scale
initiatives to organize the health care industry, reform the political
landscape and further the causes of social and economic justice.

Requirements
*       Strong working knowledge of relational database systems (one or
more of the following: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL).
*       Computer programming experience (any language).
*       High level of facility with numerical data analysis.
*       High IQ, intellectual creativity and a relentless drive to win.

Helpful, but not necessary @ time of hiring
*       Experience managing Linux-based database servers handling
TB-size datasets with state-of-the-art software/hardware technology.
*       Ability to write scripts in Perl, Python or equivalent.
*       Experience with a statistical analysis package (e.g., SPSS, SAS,
or R).
*       Knowledge of health care industry.

Talented candidates who may not have the exact skills listed above but
have other appreciable technical skills and who can rapidly develop
the expertise listed above are also encouraged to apply. Those with
backgrounds in mathematics, natural sciences, engineering or computer
science are especially encouraged to apply.

Compensation: The union provides a competitive salary and full benefits,
including health, vision, dental and life insurance, 401(k) and a
defined-benefit pension plan.
