Try the following (I just use ZIP and ZINB on my APSA paper):

Greene, William H. 1994. "Accounting for Excess Zeros and Sample
Selection in Poisson and Negative Binomial Regression Models."
New York University Department of Economics Working Paper EC-
94-10.

Lambert, Diane. 1992. "Zero-Inflated Poisson Regression, With an
Application to Defects in Manufacturing." Technometrics
34:1-14.

King, Gary. 1989c. "Variance Specification in Event Count Models: From
Restrictive Assumptions to a Generalized Estimator." American
Journal of Political Science 33:762-784.

Long J., Scott. 1997. Regression Models for Categorical and Limited
Dependent
Variables. Advanced Quantitative Techniques in the Social
Sciences, Volume 7.
        Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage Publications.

Vuong, Quang H. 1989. "Likelihood Ratio Tests for Model Selection and
        Non-Nested Hypotheses." Econometrica 57:307-333.

Zorn, J. Christopher. 1996. "Evaluating Zero-Inflatedand Hurdle Poisson
Specifications." Midwest Political Science Association. April
18-20. http://web.polmeth.ufl.edu/papers/96/zorn96.pdf

Zorn, J. Christopher. 1998. An Analytic and Empirical Examination of
Zero-Inflated and Hurdle Poisson Specifications. Sociological
Methods and Research 26(February): 368-400.

For theory, start from Lambert, Greene and King. Applied Long, Zorn.
Vuong will be a must between zip and Poisson.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [POLMETH] zero-inflated models?

Good morning -

Does anyone have any good references for zero-inflated negative binomial
or Poisson regression models? I'm looking for both applied and
theoretical cites.

Thanks -

Anna Maria
