Position: American Politics
Rank: Open

The Department of Political Science at the Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure track position from scholars with substantive expertise in American politics.  A scholar at any rank can fill this position pending the availability of funds.  The Department is interested in a wide range of topics and approaches and welcomes applicants concentrating on behavior, institutions, race, gender and identity politics, or other aspects of political decision-making in the United States.  The Department is especially interested in scholars who combine their substantive expertise with both an interest in important theoretical puzzles and sophisticated data analytic methods.

For senior candidates a letter outlining their interest and research plus a CV will be sufficient at this stage.  Junior candidates should provide a letter of interest, research and teaching statements, three letters of recommendation, a transcript, and examples of their writing including chapters from their dissertation.

The department is particularly interested in scholars who focus on political representation, the linkages between citizens and politicians, and the public policy process.  This could include the study of the politics of austerity, social provision, or the reform of market-governing institutions.  Preference will be given to scholars who combine substantive expertise with an interest in important theoretical puzzles and the use of compelling analytic methods.  The department is open to all theoretical perspectives and research strategies as well as to research based on quantitative and/or qualitative evidence.

Although the department is not committed to any specific regional specialization, it would welcome applicants with expertise in the Middle East, Asia, the former Soviet space, or Africa.
