International Relations

The Department of Political Science at the University of Pittsburgh invites
applications for a tenure stream position at the level of Assistant
Professor in international relations, pending budgetary approval. We
welcome applications from candidates working in all areas of international
relations, but are particularly interested in those whose work bridges
traditional areas of concentration in international relations. Similarly,
we welcome applications from candidates regardless of methodological
orientation, but would be particularly interested in candidates who employ
formal theory in their work. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in hand or
expected by the end of the summer, 2016. Applications should include a
cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research and teaching
interests, two or three writing samples, teaching evaluations (if

receive email notification with instructions about submitting their
letters. Please apply online at:
https://facultysearch.as.pitt.edu/apply/index/MTEw. Review of applications
will begin on September 21, 2015, and will continue until the position is

William S. Dietrich II Endowed Chair in Political Science

The Department of Political Science at the University of Pittsburgh invites
applications from nationally prominent scholars to fill the inaugural
William S. Dietrich II Endowed Chair in Political Science, with appointment
to begin in the 2016-17 academic year, pending budgetary approval. The
Chair is named in honor of the late Dr. William S. Dietrich II, a former
chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees who received his Ph.D. from
the Department in 1984.

In filling this chair, and in keeping with the interests of Dr. Dietrich,
the Department seeks candidates with extraordinary credentials in research,
teaching, and mentorship in the fields of international relations or
comparative politics, or whose interests cut across these and possibly
other disciplinary subfields. The Political Science Department at the
University of Pittsburgh currently consists of 25 tenure stream faculty
members with vibrant and varied research agendas.

The Department’s NRC ranking has improved dramatically over the past
decade, and presently ranks between 20th and 30th among Ph.D. granting
departments. It has long fostered collegiality and a culture of
collaboration among faculty and graduate students. The Department benefits
from numerous synergies with other units on campus, including the
University Center for International Studies, a world renowned,
multidisciplinary institute housing centers for area studies and for
topical specializations in international studies, and the Graduate School
of Public and International Affairs, a public administration and public
policy school emphasizing international relations and political
development. The City of Pittsburgh frequently tops “most livable city”
rankings thanks to its numerous social and cultural offerings and low cost
of living.

Please submit a detailed cover letter and C.V. electronically at
https://facultysearch.as.pitt.edu/apply/index/MTA4. Additional information
may be requested at a later date. Review of applications will begin on
September 30, 2015 and will continue until the position is filled. The
University of Pittsburgh is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity
Employer. Women and members of minority groups underrepresented in academia
are especially encouraged to apply.
