I would like to draw your attention to an open position in the field of social media analytics and elections:



- Position: Research Associate (pre- or post-doc)

- Availability: From July 1 to October 1, 2024, initially on a temporary basis until December 31, 2026

- Location: Chair of Political Science (Domestic Politics & Comparative Government Studies) and within the dtec.bw research project SPARTA (Society, Politics and Risk with Twitter Analysis) at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich, Germany.



We are seeking a dedicated individual for the position of Research Associate in the field of Party Politics and Election Research with a special focus on the political system of Germany. The position involves academic work at the Chair of Political Science, with a particular emphasis on Domestic Politics and Comparative Government Studies, and within the dtec.bw research project SPARTA. This interdisciplinary project brings together researchers from Political Science, History, Computer Science, and Data Science, and is dedicated to developing a low-code infrastructure for cross-platform and multimodal analysis of social media data. Using the case studies of "Elections" and "Riots," we train the best language models for German social media posts using state-of-the-art hardware and the latest approaches in Natural Language Processing (NLP). A special focus of our research is on tendencies of radicalization, polarization, and extremism in social media discourses surrounding election campaigns at both national and subnational levels in Germany.



Qualification requirements:

- Above-average completed university degree (Masterโ€™s, Diploma, or equivalent) or PhD in Comparative Political Science, Political Communication, Political Sociology, or a relevant adjacent field with a focus on Social Media Analytics.

- Methodological competence in quantitative social research and Computational Social Sciences, experience in analyzing social media data.

- Sound knowledge in party politics, political systems, comparative government studies, electoral research, and/or (digital) election campaigning.

- Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English.

- Deadline: May 18, 2024
