Dear Political Methodologists,

The NYU Center for Social Media and Politics (https://csmapnyu.org) is looking to hire several postdoctoral associates, with the positions to begin Fall, 2024.

We have three distinct positions you can apply for. In an effort to save your time and ours, please do not apply for more than one; if we think you are a better fit for a different listing we will automatically consider you for that listing.

Please note that for all positions - REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS WILL BEGIN JANUARY 15, 2024.

1) POLITICAL BEHAVIOR: We are looking for a postdoc to work on research examining political behavior in the United States making use of a unique dataset: a panel survey of US respondents including waves in 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, and continuing into 2024. Data for many respondents has been matched to digital trace data, including behavior on Twitter and Facebook, as well as web tracking data and YouTube watch histories.

The postdoc will work on a series of papers examining the relationship between media consumption and changes in attitudes over the course of campaigns, as well as examining the relationship between perceptions of the online media environment and the actual environment. The postdoc will be expected to conduct analysis and write papers. The postdoc will also be expected to propose innovative papers, both making use of the CSMaP panel dataset described above, and other data. Approximately 80% of the postdoc’s time will be devoted to joint work on these projects, and 20% will be available for pursuing their own research.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in political behavior, U.S. politics, and social media.

2) COMPARATIVE POLITICS: We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on research examining the intersection of social and digital media and politics with a primary focus on comparative politics. We are interested in research both on the substantive impact of social and digital media as well as innovative uses of social and digital media to study comparative politics.

Approximately 80% of the applicant’s time will be devoted to joint work on CSMaP projects, and 20% will be available for pursuing their own research. The work on CSMaP projects will include ongoing projects at the Center, new projects proposed by the Center’s academic directors, and new projects proposed by the applicant.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in comparative politics, social and digital media, and computational social science methods.
