Professor of Political Economy at Sciences Po

Co-Director of the Max Planck Sciences Po Center on Coping
with Instability in Market Societies

Sciences Po invites applications for a permanent position of Professor of
Political Economy at
Sciences Po at the level of Associate or Full Professor depending on the
experience of the candidate.
The successful candidate will co-direct the Max Planck Sciences Po Center on
Coping with Instability
in Market Societies (MaxPo).

Established in 2012 by the Max Planck Society and Sciences Po Paris, MaxPo is a
Franco-German
center in the social sciences located in Paris. Its research focuses on
investigating how individuals,
organizations, and politics are coping with the increased instability that has
developed in Western
societies during the last forty years due to liberalization policies and
cultural shifts. Research at the
center is conducted by two research group leaders under the supervision of the
two institutions.

We are seeking a social scientist with a background in political economy or
related fields for one
of the research leader positions. The new research group leader will receive
funds for his or her research
and for doctoral students. Further funding will depend on a positive evaluation
of the center
in 2016. The specific research project proposed by the candidate must be linked
to the research
focus of MaxPo, as described at www.maxpo.eu > Research. Since this is a tenured
position, the
successful candidate will remain professor at Sciences Po and be a member of the
Faculty beyond
the MaxPo period.

Basic qualifications

The applicant must have an excellent academic record, an international
scientific reputation, highly
ranked publications, and a demonstrated ability to build international
collaboration networks. The
ability to supervise doctoral students is important and a “habilitation” is a
plus. The salary is negotiable
and will depend on the experience of the candidate.

The Max Planck Society and Sciences Po are equal opportunity employers. We aim
to increase the
percentage of women in positions where they are under-represented and are
committed to employing
more people with physical challenges, who are strongly encouraged to apply.

Application procedure

Candidates are requested to submit a letter of interest, a CV with a publication
list, a research prospectus
(maximum 2,500 words) oriented to the goals of the center, proof of education
and previous
employment (all compiled in one PDF document), and two letters of reference in
PDF format
to be emailed directly by the referees. Please email the completed application
materials to Vincent
Morandi ([log in to unmask]).

Application deadline: 30 June 2015.

Applications will be examined by a selection committee, which will shortlist a
small number of candidates.
The shortlisted candidates will be asked to give a talk on their own research
and how they
envision their role as co-director of MaxPo in September.

Interested candidates with questions about the position or the research content
are invited to contact
Jens Beckert, Director of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies
(MPIfG) in Cologne
([log in to unmask]), or Patrick Le Galès, CNRS Research Professor at the Centre
d’études
européennes ([log in to unmask]).
