Hi everyone,

I would like to make two announcements about the APSA 2018 and one
announcement about the upcoming summer meeting:

First, the *business meeting* for the Society for Political Methodology
(SPM) will be held on Friday, August 31 from 6:30 to 7:30pm in Hynes
Convention Center, Room 101.

Second, SPM is co-sponsoring the *APSA Hackathon*
<https://connect.apsanet.org/hackathon/> whose focus is the promotion of
diversity and inclusion in political science. Brian Pollins and Suzie Linn
will be fielding a team to figure out the best way to enhance the Advanced
Empirical Research on Politics for Undergraduates Program (AERoPUP)
<http://goo.gl/n7UVSv>. If you would like to join this team or have other
ideas to promote the diversity and inclusion within SPM, please let me
know. We can field more teams. Our diversity report <http://goo.gl/wVMirB>
should be a good starting point for thinking about other ideas. The call
for teams by the APSA Hackathon appears at the end of this message.

Finally, we received a *record number of applications* for the summer
meeting. In particular, I am happy to report that the number of female
applicants increased by more than 50%. The program committee chaired by
Jay Goodliffe is working hard to sort through these applications and will
be making the decisions by May 18.

Best,
Kosuke Imai
President, Society for Political Methodology
