Dear List  Members,

At the University of Göttingen -Public Law Foundation-, Göttingen Centre
for Modern Indian Studies, there is a position as *Postdoctoral Fellow in
the Research Cluster Inequality and Diversity in Modern India* (all genders
welcome) Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L/100%

filled. Starting date is 10/1/2023. The position is limited to 30.09.2026.

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow  (f/m/d) with a research
focus on “Durable Inequality”. The fellow will be employed in the research
group of Prof. Rupa Viswanath.

Applicants must have a master´s Degree and a PhD in Development Studies,
Anthropology, Sociology, History, Political Science or allied fields.
Applicants need not work on India but should have strong comparative
interests. Preference will be given to candidates whose research addresses
one or more of the following topics: (1) politics and political economy of
caste, race and other forms of durable inequality; (2) class relations and
the state; (3) political representation and citizenship; (4) agrarian
change; and (5) slavery and trapped labour.  In addition to the primary
task of pursuing his or her own research and writing, the fellow will teach
one course per semester (of their own design, in consultation with Prof.
Viswanath), will assist in the joint supervision of PhD, MA and BA
students, and will take part in light administrative tasks of the research
group. The fellow will also have the opportunity to design and organize
international workshops. The scholar will be based at the University of
Göttingen in Germany.

Applicants from all countries are encouraged to apply. English proficiency
is expected; German is not required, but would be welcome.

A complete application will consist of a cover letter, a CV, a writing
sample, a 1000-word postdoctoral research plan, and the names of two
referees who will be asked to submit letters of support for shortlisted
candidates.
