Salary at Reader level will be £45,941 to £53,233 plus, £2,323 London Allowance
pa. Salary at Professor level will be on the Institute's Senior Grades salary
scale at a level commensurate with the academic standing of the appointee plus,
£2,323 London Allowance per annum.
The appointment will be full time, and a start date of 1 April 2014 is
preferred, although an earlier or later date may be agreed if practical. Job
share is considered.
We are seeking to appoint a Reader or Professor in the Department of
Quantitative Social Science to increase our range and/or depth of statistical
expertise. The post provides an exciting opportunity to join a leading UK
centre for the development and application of quantitative methods in the
social sciences. The post will entail 0.3 FTE explicitly devoted to activities
in the Centre for Longitudinal Studies as the Chief Statistician for the
world-renowned cohort studies that we manage (NCDS, BCS70, MCS and LSYPE).
You will be a social statistician, an econometrician, or a social scientist with
another disciplinary background with expertise in quantitative methods relevant
to our core research and teaching interests. You will publish research in
social statistics applied to contemporary policy issues in education or other
social areas and/or in methods in those areas making use of the longitudinal
datasets housed at CLS and other sources e.g. NPD. You will be responsible for
the production of reports on response to the CLS cohorts and will contribute to
maintaining, developing and promoting the studies (especially in relation to
statistical issues), and to raising funding.
It is essential that you have an established record of published scholarly
research (for appointment as professor, this will be at an international
level). You will also have research expertise in the field of social
statistics or a field of applied quantitative social science involving the use
of advanced statistical methods. A record of gaining research funds, teaching
courses on advanced statistical methods and sample survey design, as well as
experience of PHD student supervision are also essential.
