To the Political Methodology Community:

Stanford University is pleased to announce an immediate job opening for a
social scientist in the position of "Director of Stanford Operations" for
the American National Election Studies and other major survey research
projects (including one on Americans' attitudes about the environment).

This job is great for someone interested in doing research focused on
political attitudes and behavior with high-quality data and the opportunity
to collaborate with a large team in publishing the work in top outlets.

The person will serve as a researcher at Stanford's new Institute for
Research in the Social Sciences.

The American National Election Studies (www.electionstudies.org) is a
complex, large-scale project that has conducted nationally representative
surveys of American voters as a public good since 1948. Thousands of
academic publications have been produced using the data in psychology,
political science, and other disciplines.

Responsibilities of the position will also include: (1) manage all
administrative tasks for the NSF-funded grant activities of the ANES at
Stanford, (2) be the principal contact and supervisor of two sub-awards for
survey research, including one $1 million sub-award, (3) work with the
Principal Investigators to design and revise the questionnaires for a new
panel study, (4) monitor the sampling process for the panel study, and
track the panel composition across waves, (5) work with the Principal
Investigators to implement pre-testing and pilot studies of measures for
the panel study, (6) conduct statistical analyses of the panel data as they
come in each month, to monitor and maintain measurement quality, comparing
results to simultaneous studies by other organizations, (7) write reports
describing those statistical analyses, (8) interface with the public about
the panel study, (9) work with the Principal Investigators and staff at the
University of Michigan to process, clean, and build the panel study
datasets for distribution, (10) prepare the codebooks and other
documentation for the panel study, (11) possibly seek funding for and
organize one or more conferences to help get advice on design of the panel
study measures and sample, (12) assist the Principal Investigators in
fulfilling all requirements of the grant, (13) collaborate to assist
faculty and staff working on the collaborative grant at the University of
Michigan.

The position is full-time, exempt, 1-year term appointment with full
benefits, with the opportunity for extensions depending on renewal of the
NSF grant, at least 4 years. This position offers challenging work and lots
of opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications: PhD level training in social science research methods
(ideally with some expertise/experience in survey research), or a Masters
degree with equivalent educational experience. At least two years of
professional experience in project and contract management would be
desirable. Highly computer literate. Demonstrated experience using a
statistical software package such as SPSS, STATA, or SAS for data analysis
and management. Team player with excellent interpersonal, written, and oral
communication skills. A history of being motivated, organized, resourceful,
and attentive to detail.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis as they are received
with the hope of filling the position as soon as possible.
