Comparative research on unicameral and the lower houses of legislatures has
expanded rapidly in recent years. This workshop turns the focus to upper
houses, commonly called Senates. Papers are welcome on a variety of topics,
such as Senate elections, powers, and differences from lower houses, as
well as their impact on governance and stability in multiethnic polities.

My hope, though certainly not a requirement, is that some of the papers
will make use of the new archive of Senate election results posted on
Election Passport located at http://www.electionpassport.com/senates/ and
also being integrated into the Constituency-Level Election Archive (CLEA)
at http://electiondataarchive.org/.

Paper proposals are due on March 1 and need only include a short paragraph
describing the planned research. Please send submissions and any requests
for further information to David Lublin at [log in to unmask]

The workshop is sponsored by the School of Public Affairs at American
University. Funding will cover one night of hotel stay and meals on the day
of the workshop. Limited additional funding is available for travel.
