The Center for Responsive Politics (CRP), widely known as the premier
non-partisan, non-profit research group that investigates how money affects
federal elections and policy, seeks a new Executive Director. Based in
Washington, D.C., the Center is looking for a creative, entrepreneurial
leader who values the democratic ideals of open, deliberative government and
who possesses the expertise in American politics to be a high-profile
advocate for responsible political participation and an informed citizenry.
Most importantly, the Executive Director will uphold the Center’s
credibility and reputation as an independent, methodologically rigorous
research organization. This is a great opportunity for a professionally
trained, quantitatively oriented social scientist to reach a broad audience
of policymakers, journalists and the public at large while at the same time
contributing to scholarly debates about the role of money in elections and
public policy.

For further information, please see the following announcement for the
Executive Director position or visit the search firm Isaacson Miller’s
description at http://www.imsearch.com/OpenDetails.asp?JobID=S3-241.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
THE CENTER FOR RESPONSIVE POLITICS
Washington, DC
THE SEARCH
The Center for Responsive Politics (CRP), a non-partisan, non-profit
research group that tracks money in politics and its effect on elections and
public policy, seeks a new Executive Director. Approaching its 25th year
and planning for the years beyond, the Center is widely cited and praised
for its work, which aims to create a more educated voter, an involved
citizenry, and a more responsive government.

The Center carries out its mission by providing rigorous research, analysis,
and disclosure of the many ways private sector interests may seek to
influence elected federal officials. It may also analyze and comment on
campaign finance laws, congressional ethics rules, and the overall
institutional integrity of Congress. Its user-friendly web site,
www.OpenSecrets.org <http://www.opensecrets.org/> , has won the prestigious
Webby Award for best politics site three times in the ten-year history of
the Webby, including most recently in 2006. OpenSecrets allows users to
explore the connections between money and politics, and puts money and
politics issues in context for reporters, activists, academics, politicians,
and interested citizens. While the non-partisan Center does not typically
support or oppose specific legislative proposals, it participates in the
overall debate over the role of money in politics and in the debate over the
desirability of reform in general.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced, entrepreneurial leader to
guide and challenge a prestigious, effective organization that was the first
to track and analyze campaign contributions to federal candidates and
remains a leader in educating the public on the effect of money on the
political process. The position calls for a strong and skillful leader with
a strategic orientation, a creative intellect, and an entrepreneurial flair.
The successful candidate will bring a facility for securing financial
support for programs; an ability to effectively represent the organization
before the media and at the highest professional levels; and an
understanding of software and internet advances that can both increase the
efficiency of data analysis and enhance the dissemination of information in
a way that interests and educates the general public.
