OAKLAND UNIVERSITY

American Politics

The Department of Political Science at Oakland University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin August 15, 2007. The department is seeking someone with strong research skills and an active research agenda in American politics with a preference for someone specializing in political behavior broadly defined; any secondary area of specialization is open. The successful candidate will teach an introductory course in American politics, upper-division courses in his/her sub-field, and an undergraduate research methods course as part of a normal 3-2 course load. The candidate who fills this position will also have the opportunity to develop additional courses in his/her area of interest. 

 

Candidates with their Ph.D. in hand are preferred, but candidates who are ABD will also be considered provided that they can demonstrate they are near completion of the dissertation. Preference will be given to candidates with prior university teaching experience and those who have demonstrated scholarly productivity.

Applications should consist of a letter of interest, a curriculum vita, graduate transcripts, a writing sample (preferably something other than a dissertation chapter), and copies of teaching evaluations (if available). Letters of recommendation should be sent under separate cover by three references.

The Department, housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, offers an undergraduate degree program in Political Science (B.A.), in Public Administration and Public Policy (B.S.), and an accredited Master of Public Administration program, with concentrations in Health Care, Local Government, Criminal Justice, and Nonprofit Management. The Department also conducts applied research for public and not-for-profit agencies through the Public Affairs Research Laboratory. Oakland University is a state-assisted, Carnegie I research institution offering baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degree programs to over 17,000 students. The 1400-acre campus is located in Rochester, Michigan a suburban community 26 miles north of Detroit. The University hosts a residential theater company, maintains an art gallery and historic mansion, and provides an outdoor venue for summer musical events. It is convenient to many social, cultural, and recreational activities in the metropolitan Detroit area.
