Dear colleagues,

On behalf of Thomas König and Fabio Franchino, I would like to draw your attention to the call for applications for the 2018 EITM Europe summer institute on "Text as Data: New Developments in Machine Learning and Social Media Research."

The EITM summer institute will be held at the Collegio Carlo Alberto in Torino, Italy, from June 23 through July 7. It offers an introduction to the most recent developments in quantitative textual analysis and applications to social media taught by leading scholars.

The first module on statistics from June 25 until June 27 (and a math refresher from June 23 until June 24) will be taught by James Lo (University of Southern California), the theoretical module from June 28 until June 30 by Thomas Bräuninger (University of Mannheim), the module on machine learning from July 2 until July 4 by Nicole Baerg (University of Essex), and the module on social media from July 5 until July 7 by Pablo Barberá (London School of Economics and Political Science). More information can be found on the following website: http://eitm.sowi.uni-mannheim.de/ <http://eitm.sowi.uni-mannheim.de/>.

The tuition for participation in all modules from June 23 to July 7 is 1000 €. If participants want to join only a shorter period of time, the tuition is 300 € per module.

Applications can be submitted until May 1. To apply please use the online application form of the Essex Summer School (http://essexsummerschool.com/summer-school-facts/courses/complete-2018-course-list/ <http://essexsummerschool.com/summer-school-facts/courses/complete-2018-course-list/>).

Best regards,
Guido Ropers
