InterMedia specializes in nationally representative surveys in developing countries and fragile states. We have our headquarters in DC and a branch office in Nairobi, Kenya. We implement bespoke research designs, for example intercept interviews with North Korean defectors, to get quality data from hard-to-reach populations. Our biggest client currently is the Gates Foundation, for whom we run annual tracking surveys in Africa and Asia on financial services for the poor, especially mobile money. We also do surveys to inform polio vaccination campaigns for Harvard and Unicef and a variety of assessments and evaluations for international development projects across sectors.



"I am looking for an Associate Director of Research to take on significant responsibility for project management and delivery of analysis and reporting to our clients. I would ideally like to recruit a professional social scientist with a PhD and 4 years of experience at managing research projects. We’re also recruiting for a Research Manager with an MA and three years of experience. Mainly we are looking for generalists with a solid grasp of quantitative and qualitative methods and good analytical and writing skills. I attached the job descriptions with more details.”







Research Manager – should have  a proven track-record of managing complex, large scale, multi-method research programs. This position helps to manage field research teams, liaise with clients, develop and maintain research documentation, produce and adhere to project schedules, and ensure delivery of high quality data and analysis and project deliverables on time and within budget. This position also assists in developing new business proposals and practice areas. The Research Manager position is located in Washington, D.C. and expected to travel internationally (30%).



Key Requirements:



Education:  Bachelors or Master’s degree in social science, market research, global finance, or similar relevant subject.



Experience:



 3+ years’ experience in managing the implementation of multi-country quantitative surveys and qualitative research;



 Experience in performing integrated research – preferably with knowledge of large-scale nationally representative quantitative surveys and qualitative methodologies and analytical approaches;



 Experience in managing and supervising large research teams conducting fieldwork as well as simultaneous managing quality control/spot-checking teams and reporting and analysis teams;



 Experience in data analysis and in writing clear, insightful and compelling reports;



 Ability to implement multi-country project plans including logistics, cost and quality control routines, and to mentor other researchers;



 Solid project management skills with an evidenced track record.



 An understanding of survey research and applications for non-profits, foundations and NGO’s, in the international development and related sectors.



 Fluency with targeted research initiatives for strategy, communications, advocacy, usability and measurement and evaluation



 Excellent at analyzing data, ensuring accuracy, logical consistency and value-added insight;



 Ability to collaborate with specialists on multi-country, mixed-methodology projects.



 Data visualization and presentation-building skills.



 Proven experience in producing and publishing actionable research and analysis that has received coverage within the research and development community; and a



 Willingness to travel internationally (approximately 30%).



Desirable:



 Strong applied knowledge of multivariate quantitative and qualitative analysis and reporting preferred;



 Command of analytical software such as SPSS or STATA with experience in statistical modeling and analysis;



 Background in mobile money/financial services for the poor, or impact evaluation for large government and philanthropic clients; relevant domain knowledge to intuitively interpret and analyze field data,



 Experience in questionnaire design and data entry procedures;



 Program monitoring and evaluation experience is advantageous; and



 Foreign language skills, preferably Hindi or other South Asian language.



 Familiarity with issues related to financial inclusion in South Asia.

Associate Director. Qualified candidates will have a wide range of well-developed methodological and organizational skills to design, implement and/or manage complex data collection projects. Experienced in managing/leading a team of researchers, the preparation, quality control and implementation of fieldwork through data management, analysis and delivery of final products to clients, providing and guiding the production of insightful, actionable analysis and reports for clients.



The ideal candidate should be able to pro-actively plan and prioritize multiple projects, experienced and skilled in hands-on management of all aspects of project management, exceptional analytical and writing skills and knowledgeable in the subject matter of at least one of the company’s main thematic sections including financial inclusion, services for the poor, health and media. This position is located in Washington, DC.



This position requires up to 35% international travel.





Qualifications:



 Bachelor’s Degree in political or social science, market research, or international affairs



minimum of 10 years of experience executing research projects in a market or social science focused environment; or a Master’s Degree and 7 years of such experience; or a



PhD and 4 years of such experience;



 At least 4 years of experience in the design and management of multiple, varied research projects, including field research in developing countries, within prescribed budgets;



 Demonstrated ability to collaborate with specialists in multi-country, mixed-methodology projects in challenging environments;



 Proven skill in managing project budgets, personnel and contractual issues;



 High and consistent excellence in the crafting of finished, insightful analysis and visualization of data, on schedule and within budget;



 Excellent written and presenting skills and a confident communicator with the ability to collaborate with specialists on multi-country, mixed-methodology projects.



 Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor more junior researchers;



 High proficiency in advanced multivariate analysis and quantitative and the use of qualitative analytical software including SPSS and NVivo equivalents and/or demonstrated success in Monitoring and Evaluation;



 Foreign language fluency relevant to InterMedia research and specialized IT skills including GIS software are advantageous;



 Knowledge of and/or experience in work related to Financial Inclusion, Digital and/or mobile money is advantageous.
