As the section chair for the methods panels at SPSA this year, I
wanted to along some encouragement for paper proposals from the
methods section. The official deadline has just passed, but there is
room for some additional papers. It would be great to have a big
methods presence at the meetings.

The 2007 SPSA Annual Meeting will be held in New Orleans, January
4-6, 2007.

As some further incentive for junior faculty and graduate students,
there are a number of travel awards offered by SPSA. Following are
some details of the awards.

1. The Artinian Awards are made to U.S.-based untenured but tenure
track faculty members who are presenting papers at the meeting.
Twenty (20) Artinian awards were made in 2006.
2. The Prestage-Cook Awards are made to graduate students members
who are presenting papers at the meeting.
Sixty (60) Prestage-Cook Awards were made in 2006.
3. Each Artinian and Prestage-Cook award is for $250.
6. To apply, send an e-mail stating interest and eligibility plus a
brief C.V. to the SPSA Executive Director: [log in to unmask]
7.   Previous Artinian recipients are not eligible for another grant;
previous Prestage-Cook recipients will have lower priority for awards
than first time applicants.
8. Finally, two Walter Beach Awards ($500 each) will be made to non-
U.S. based international scholars who are participating in the meeting.
Awards must be collected at the Association's Business meeting and
award winners must be regstered and staying at the official
convention hotel.

I hope you'll consider applying.
