Dear members of the Political Methodology community,

I'm pleased to announce the 2018 Janet Box-Steffensmeier and John A. Garcia
Scholarships. The Society for Political Methodology and the
Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) have
jointly offered two scholarship awards that are intended to encourage women
and under-represented graduate students to attend the ICPSR Summer Program
in Quantitative Methods of Social Research. The information about the
scholarships is available at the Society's website but I also provide it
below for your information.

This year, the winners of these scholarships will be invited to present
their research at the poster session of the summer meeting. I hope that
this will provide an additional incentive for many of you to apply for
these scholarships. If you have any questions about the scholarships,
please contact Saundra Schneider <[log in to unmask]> who will chair the
selection committee.

Best,
Kosuke Imai
President, Society for Political Methodology

The Janet Box-Steffensmeier Scholarship is a waiver of Program Scholar fees
to attend one or both of the ICPSR Summer Program's four-week sessions. The
scholarship will be awarded to a maximum of three women graduate students
in Ph.D. programs.

The John A. Garcia Award is a waiver of Program Scholar fees to attend one
or both of the ICPSR Summer Program's four-week sessions. The scholarship
will be awarded to a maximum of three under-represented graduate students
in Ph.D. programs.

Recipients of the Box-Steffensmeier and Garcia Scholarships will also
receive funds to present their research at the poster session of the 2018
Society for Political Methodology Summer Meeting, which will be held at
Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah from July 19-21, 2018. For more
information about the Summer Meeting, visit

and select classes in one or both of the four-week sessions. Note that
course selections may be modified and changed later. But, the
Box-Steffensmeier and Garcia Scholarship Committee may use an applicant's
preferred courses as a criterion in the selection process for the
respective scholarships. Along with a completed registration, an
application must include:

   - A current vita
   - A cover letter from the student, explaining how the specific classes
the student plans to take in the ICPSR Summer Program will contribute
   toward completion of the Ph.D.
   - A faculty letter endorsing the student

Visit the ICPSR Summer Program website at www.icpsr.umich.edu/sumprog
