CEPS / INSTEAD (Centre for the Study of Population, Poverty and Socio-Economic
Policies / International Networks for Studies in Technology, Environment,
Alternatives, Development) is a public research institution under the Ministry
of higher Education and Research. Reference center in the Grand Duchy of
Luxembourg in the field of social science research, CEPS / INSTEAD promotes a
multidisciplinary approach in collaboration with researchers whose areas of
expertise are economics, sociology, geography and political sciences.

We are seeking, a POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER in quantitative social sciences for
our international Master programme IMPALLA (International Master in Social
Policy Analysis by Luxembourg, Leuven and Associate institutes).

CONTEXT

Together with the University of Leuven (Belgium) and in collaboration with the
Universities of Tilburg (NL), Nancy 2 (FR) and Luxembourg (L), CEPS/INSTEAD
organises an advanced academic training programme in Social Policy Analysis,
taught in English. This International Master combines three perspectives: the
study of broad socio-economic policies in a comparative and supra-national
setting, advanced training in research methodology and expertise in policy
evaluation and in the application of relevant techniques.

It is taught mainly in Esch-Belval (Luxembourg), starting usually at the end of
August, but in the spring term (February – April) students take courses in
Leuven.

JOB DESCRIPTION

&#61623; As Assistant - Professor, member of a team comprising a programme
manager and two assistant professors you will be co-responsible for tutoring
students of the IMPALLA programme. This may comprise: further elaboration of
the taught courses by means of developing illustrative exercises for the
students (case-studies, expert-meetings, etc.), supervising the students while
executing these exercises (both individually or in a group), acting as an
intermediary between students and professors, giving guidance to (a small group
of) students while they are writing their master’s dissertation, being involved
in the administration of the programme…

&#61623; As a post-doctoral researcher you will also join a research team at
CEPS/INSTEAD. A major part of your time will be devoted to personal research
activities (in the field of social policy analysis, labour market studies,
quantitative methods) and you will contribute to the portfolio of scientific
research of CEPS/INSTEAD.

PROFILE

&#61623; You should hold a Ph.D. degree in Sociology or Economics and have
expertise in methodology and statistics in empirical social policy research.

&#61623; You should be flexible both in terms of working hours and working
place. As an intermediate between students and professors, you will be
available to both. Moreover, you will be sometimes asked to follow the students
during their three months stay at the University of Leuven.

&#61623; You should have an organisational ability and excellent communication
skills in English (both oral and written).

&#61623; French and computer science skills are valuable assets. Moreover, you
should have a positive attitude and, since you are part of a team, you must be
a team player, but capable of taking initiatives.

&#61623; You should like working with graduate students and professors who are
both of diverse scientific, cultural and national backgrounds.

COMPLEMENTARY INFORMATION

&#61623; Type of contract: full time
&#61623; Date of engagement: August 15th, or soon afterwards
&#61623; Length of the engagement: two years contract, possibility of renewal
&#61623; Salary: very competitive, according to the high Luxembourg standards.
&#61623; Working languages is English.
