The Penn Development Research Initiative (PDRI) at the University of
Pennsylvania invites applications for a Director of Research Position. The
initial appointment is for two years with the possibility for renewal.

*The job is ideal for PhD graduates with experience conducting research in
developing countries settings who want to stay in a university research
environment, but not necessarily in a tenure track position*. Email me if
you have questions ([log in to unmask]), or apply at https://bit.ly/3dB17n0.

Established in 2020, the Penn Development Research Initiative (PDRI
<https://pdri.upenn.edu/>) brings together faculty and graduate students

social science and program evaluation, drawing upon diverse disciplinary
perspectives. PDRI serves as a launch pad for pursuing extramurally-funded

international NGOs, local NGOs, and government agencies while serving as an
intellectual community for Penn faculty and graduate students conducting
research in developing countries settings.

The Director of Research (DoR) will have dual responsibilities: advancing
PDRI’s research activities and leading the development of various PDRI

opportunities, liaising with potential donors, and taking the lead in
writing grant proposals, among others.

*Fund Raising*: The DoR will also be instrumental in raising core funds to
support PDRI’s activities (e.g., hiring additional staff) to ensure
financial sustainability, and to identify and funding sources that will
enable PDRI to grow. In this capacity, the DoR will also contribute to and
inform strategic planning.

*Supporting existing research projects*: in this role the DoR will support
and supervise project-specific managers, conduct outreach to varied
stakeholders within the program, make program improvement recommendations,
help organize research dissemination events, support contracting
sub-awardees (e.g., survey firms), etc.

*Administration*: in this role, the DoR will take a leading role in hiring
and managing permanent staff; supervising the organization of weekly
seminars and bi-annual conferences; supervise website maintenance and
updating; manage outreach activities (e.g., bi-monthly newsletter), and
on-boarding new affiliates.
