I am delighted to announce a call for proposals to attend first session of the 2020 Essex Summer School in Social Science and Data Analysis. This is a very tight turnaround, so please carefully consider eligibility and application requirements below. We invite all eligible candidates to apply!
Opportunity:
Attend the Essex Summer School in Social Science and Data Analysis with sponsorship from the Global South Academic Network<https://gsan.essex.ac.uk> (GSAN), the Disaster and Emergency Research Network<https://dern.essex.ac.uk> (DERN), and the Essex University Global Challenges Research Fund. The Essex Summer School<http://Essex%20Summer%20School%20in%20Social%20Science%20and%20Data%20Analysis> offers over 40 courses with broad and deep training in research methods. The offerings available for sponsorship this year are:

Successful applicants will:
* Take one course of their choice from the First Summer School Session;
* Present their own research in a series of online webinars designed to forge collaborations with DERN and GSAN scholars in the UK.
Funding:
For each successful applicant, GSAN and DERN will provide summer school tuition. This summer, ESS will be available exclusively online, so there are no travel/accommodation arrangements necessary. To facilitate participation, we will be offering extra money to boost internet/wifi connectivity, where needed, in order to access the classes.
Eligibility:
You are eligible to apply for this funding if:
* you meet ESS eligibility requirements; and
* you are a scholar with residency or citizenship in a country on the DAC List<https://www.oecd.org/dac/financing-sustainable-development/development-finance-standards/DAC_List_ODA_Recipients2018to2020_flows_En.pdf>.
Time Frame:
18 June
Launch call for applications for visiting fellowships specifically to attend Essex Summer School (ESS). Use DERN and GSAN networks, as well as other mailing lists, to post call.
23 June
Deadline for applications (11:45pm Eastern Daylight Time).
24 June
Decisions made, recipients informed, students register for ESS.
28 June
Last day to register for ESS.
13-24 July
Attend ESS class online (offered either 10:00 - 13:30 BST or 14:15 - 17:45 BST).
Share research in small-group sessions.
