Dear colleagues,

I've recently created a Discord community for folks interested in experimentation. I think it might be of interest to a number of people on this list: https://discord.gg/Vu39XURdRy

I think semi-private spaces like this are a nicer place for discussion (especially technical discussion), than some other online venues like Twitter. In addition to basic affordances (like writing math or formatting text) it's also a lot easier to inculcate positive norms and to ensure community standards.

There are (for now) two main planned activities in this Discord:

1. Early and repeated feedback on experiments - EGAP's PAP reviews are great, and I'm hoping to expand this a bit to provide community feedback across the entire cycle of developing an experiment (i.e. before a formal PAP is in place, even).
2. Office hours - I'll be providing (semi)regular office hours to talk through experimentation issues with people. There aren't that many methodologists focusing particularly on experiments, so hopefully this provides access to this expertise to people who might not otherwise have it. Anyone who would like to volunteer to hold similar online office hours is very welcome to do so! I'm holding the first instance of this on Thursday (5 CET).

Of course, it's also just a place to talk about interesting new papers, post relevant job openings and chat.

I will also add that I am inviting folks both in academia (across disciplines) and in industry, so I'm hoping there should be an interesting mix of people and perspectives. Perhaps a relevant comparison population is MIT's Conference on Digital Experimentation which has a similar mixed crowd.

Please share this with colleagues, collaborators and students. I'd particularly like to include junior folks who might benefit from advice and support.

If you have other comments / feedback, feel free to email me.

Best,
Drew
