Assistant Professor, Whitehead School of Diplomacy, IR Theory and Methods

The John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position for an assistant professor of international relations theory and research methods to commence in the 2013-2014 academic year. Applicants must be able to teach classes in international relations theory as well as qualitative and quantitative research methods at the graduate and undergraduate levels. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work bridges the academic-policy divide. Expertise in Western Europe or Middle East is a plus. We expect the applicant to build upon the school's existing strengths. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in hand by the time of their appointment. The position is subject to final budgetary approval.

Founded in 1856, Seton Hall University is the oldest and one of the largest diocesan universities in the nation. Seton Hall has recently developed a required, undergraduate Core Curriculum reflecting the University's mission and identity, and occasional teaching of a course or two within this curriculum will be required. Seton Hall University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer located only 14 miles from New York City.

The John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations prepares graduate and undergraduate students for careers in international affairs and operates in an exclusive alliance with the United Nations Foundation/United Nations Association of the United States of America. Taught by a distinguished faculty of scholars and practitioners, the School's more 500 students are drawn from more than 16 countries.

Successful applicants will demonstrate the potential to teach effectively in a professional school at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, all applicants should have strong research backgrounds or demonstrate substantial potential for conducting important academic research in their field of specialization that has relevance to practice and policy. All applicants must understand and be willing to support the Catholic mission of Seton Hall University.

Candidates should provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy, examples of scholarly work, and evidence of teaching effectiveness (if available), three letters of recommendation, a writing sample, and a graduate transcript. Applications will be considered as soon as they arrive; to receive full consideration, all applications and materials must be completed on the Seton Hall University website (www.shu.edu<http://www.shu.edu>); please follow the Employment links. Applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled.
