The Department of Political Science at The University of Alabama invites
applications for a Department Chair. A growing department, currently
comprised of 17 full-time faculty members, the Department of Political
Science is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and has a vibrant
undergraduate program with more than 700 majors and three graduate
programs--the Masters Program in Public Administration, and Masters and
Ph.D. programs in Political Science--with more than 70 active students. The
Department places great emphasis upon superior instruction at the
undergraduate and graduate levels as well as the development of its strong
research profile. The successful candidate will possess exceptional
leadership abilities, administrative experience, an excellent scholarly
record, and a commitment to the teaching and research missions of the
Department and College. A Ph.D. is required. Duties include administrative
chair responsibilities for Department of Political Science; teaching
undergraduate and graduate courses in appropriate field; pursuing active
research agenda leading to publication of books and/or articles on that
topic; and engaging in other service activities relevant to the University,
community, and professional organizations. The area of expertise of the
