This vacancy is open to all qualified U.S. Citizens.  Applications 
will be accepted from status and non-status applicants.  Status 
applicants will be considered under merit promotion procedures.  Non-
status applicants will be considered under competitive procedures. 
This announcement will be used for continuous hiring throughout the 
year as positions become available; however, the number of positions 
to be filled and the timing of the interviews and selections is 
dependent on the FY 2009 budget.
  

JOB SUMMARY: 
The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) supports the
Congress in meeting its constitutional responsibilities to
legislate, appropriate, and oversee the Federal government for the
benefit of the American people. The GAO, commonly referred to as
the investigative arm of Congress, or the congressional watchdog, is
independent and nonpartisan. The GAO assists Congress in making
informed decisions by providing information on policy and program
issues, as well as, by providing recommendations to make government
more effective and responsive.
 
The GAO conducts its work through several Mission Teams and under
four common goals:
- to provide timely, quality service to Congress and the Federal
government to address current and emerging challenges to the
well-being and financial security of the American people;
- to provide timely, quality service to Congress and the Federal
government to respond to changing security threats and the
challenges of global interdependence;
- to transform the Federal government's role and how it does
business to meet 21st century challenges; and
- to maximize the value of GAO in assisting Congress by being
a model Federal agency and a world class professional services
organization.

Entry-Level Analysts hired under this announcement may work for 
three or more of the following GAO Mission Teams during their first
two years while completing their Professional Development Program 
(PDP) rotation. 

     Acquisition and Sourcing Management (ASM)
     Defense Capabilities and Management (DCM)
     Education, Workforce, and Income Security (EWIS)
     Financial Markets and Community Investment (FMCI)
     Homeland Security and Justice (HSJ)
     International Affairs and Trade (IAT)
     Natural Resources and Environment (NRE)
     Physical Infrastructure (PI)
     Strategic Issues (SI)
     Forensic Audits and Special Investigations (FSI) of the
       Financial Management and Assurance Team (FMA)

In your first two years with GAO, your PDP experience includes a 
combination of on-the-job and classroom training, regular feedback 
and coaching, and exposure to different projects and management 
styles. Project assignments are based on a combination of GAO's 
needs and your background and interests. The PDP will place you in 
various project assignments after discussions with you and with GAO 
team representatives to ensure your exposure to different issues and 
managers during your first two years.

Positions filled under this announcement will be located in Atlanta, 
GA; Boston, MA; Dallas, TX; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; and 
Washington, DC.  The salary ranges for each location are as follows:

Atlanta, GA           $42,182 - $77,633
Boston, MA            $47,066 - $86,622
San Francisco, CA     $49,286 - $90,708
Dallas, TX; Seattle, WA; and Washington, DC:    $44,402 - $81,719
 

KEY REQUIREMENTS: 
U.S. Citizenship 
A probationary period will be required 
Selectee will have to complete a financial disclosure statement 
Selectee must be able to meet/maintain security & suitability requirements
