DW-NOMINATE scores are now available for Houses, Senates,
and a joint House-Senate scaling for Congresses 1 - 110.
The files also contain parametric bootstrapped standard
errors.
In addition all known errors in the roll call database
have been corrected. These include missing legislators
in the 101st House, missing roll calls in the 98th House,
incorrect dates in the 22nd Senate, and numerous minor
errors in the codebooks. All of these errors were in
the original ICPSR data.
We have changed the output files for the roll call
parameters to include the date of the roll call, the
cross classification, and other statistics that should
be useful to researchers. In addition, all the secondary
files -- chamber medians, means, winning policy means,
party unity scores, polarization measures -- have been
updated.
DW-NOMINATE is a collaborative effort by Royce Carroll (Rice),
James Lo (UCLA), Jeff Lewis (UCLA), Nolan McCarty (Princeton),
Keith Poole (UCSD), and Howard Rosenthal (NYU). We welcome
feedback and suggestions. Please contact either Jeff Lewis
or Keith Poole if you need assistance with the data.
The data are posted on voteview.com and voteview.ucsd.edu.
Thanks.
Keith Poole
