Associate Professor (or Professor) Quantitative Methods,
Department of Sociology, Nuffield College
University of Oxford, UK

The Department of Sociology proposes to appoint an Associate Professor
in Sociology (Quantitative Methods). This full-time, permanent post,
based in the Department of Sociology, Oxford, is available from 1
January 2015, or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment will be
made in association with a Fellowship at Nuffield College.

Associate Professorship (or Professorship) in Sociology (Quantitative Methods)

Grade 36S: Salary £44,620 - £59,914 p.a. (plus pensionable College Allowance of
£21,462)

The Department of Sociology proposes to appoint an Associate Professor in
Sociology (Quantitative Methods). This full-time, permanent post, based in the
Department of Sociology, Oxford, is available from 1st January 2015, or as soon
as possible thereafter. The appointment will be made in association with a
Fellowship at Nuffield College.

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out high quality research
that uses advanced quantitative methods to address substantive topics in
sociology and should be able to play a leading role in the development and
delivery of quantitative methods training within the Department’s undergraduate
programmes. This appointment forms a key part of the creation of the Q-Step
Centre in Social Sciences at Oxford, which is funded by the Nuffield
Foundation, the Economic and Social Research Council and the Higher Education
Funding Council for England to achieve a step change in quantitative social
science training.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in a relevant subject area, and
will have a strong record of research at an international level.  The ability
to provide excellent class and tutorial teaching to high-achieving and
challenging students and supervision of graduate students for the Department is
essential.  The post-holder will require good communication, interpersonal and
organisational skills.  A record of success in securing research funding is
also desirable.

The closing date for applications is 12:00 noon UK time on 31 October 2014.
Additional non-salary benefits and allowances apply. Interviews will be held in
Oxford on 28 November 2014.
