University

The Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics and Business Administration
invites applications for the position of

Professor (W 3 salary level) for Sociology, especially Methods of empirical
research

The position is to be filled starting in the winter term of 2014/15 (October 1,
2014).

Applicants with international or ientation should be qualified for research and
teaching in Sociology with particular focus on methods of empirical resear
ch. They are expected to have a content-driven research area in social
inequalities, upon which their instruction of empirical research methods is
based. Preferably, applicants’ research should ad
dress education, the labor market or family.
Applicants should be experienced in longitudinal anal
yses. The holder of this position is in particular
responsible for instructing social-scientific methods
in all programs of study of the faculty. An active
involvement in the Bamberg Graduate School of So
cial Sciences and the National Educational Panel
Study is expected.

The holder of the post is expected to contribute
towards Bachelor, Master, and Diploma programmes
of study and participate in the development of new
curricula. In addition, the successful candidate is
also expected to be involved in contributing toward
s the internationalisation of the Faculty’s course
offerings, support its international cooperation and
exchange programmes and take on duties in the
area of academic self-government. The ability to teach in a foreign language (p
referably English) and a willingness to engage in the development of academic
training programmes would be most welcome.

Minimum qualifications required for the position are relevant university
degrees, such as a PhD, a
“Habilitation” or equivalent (which may also have b
een obtained in the course of a junior or assistant
professorship or through appropriate experience out
side academia) and proven teaching ability. When
taking up a tenured position as a civil servant (“Beam
tenverhältnis”), the candidate must be under the
age of 52 years at the time of appointment.

the German language is required for an appointme
nt to this position, in exceptional cases all courses
