Are you a working professional or a graduate student who wants to learn
state-of-the-art statistical methodology without having to enroll in a full
degree program?

Taught by world-class faculty in small groups, the International Program in
Survey and Data Science (IPSDS) and the Joint Program in Survey Methodology
(JPSM) offer graduate-level online courses via the University of Maryland,
College Park or the University of Mannheim. Here are some forthcoming
offerings:

   - Small Area Estimation (Prof. Partha Lahiri, University of Maryland,
   College Park) meets January 26 - May 11, 2021.
Curious about methods that improve the precision of direct
survey-weighted estimates for small domains by combining relevant
information from administrative and Big data sources? This course
introduces various methods in small area estimation and illustrates their
effectiveness in different applications. The course will not only be
presented at a level appropriate for individuals who are new to small area
estimation but also include discussion of research topics of interest to
more experienced researchers. Data analyses using several real-life
   examples will be presented.

   - Generalized Linear Models (Prof. Thomas Gautschi, University of
   Mannheim) meets February 4 – April 1, 2021.
This is an ideal course for those who have a good understanding of the
classical linear regression model (OLS) and are now ready to be introduced
to more advanced statistical models and estimators useful to social and
   economic scientists.

   - Data Confidentiality and Statistical Disclosure Control (Prof. Jörg
Drechsler, Institute for Employment Research, Germany) meets February 23 –
   April 20, 2021.
This course will provide a gentle introduction to statistical disclosure
control with a focus on generating synthetic data for maintaining the
confidentiality of the survey respondents. Participants will have hands-on
experience with simulated and real data.

Spring 2021 semester. Course descriptions including prerequisites are given
on the specific course pages. Sign Up for Just one Class at the University
of Maryland

These are for-credit graduate courses. In order to enroll, you will need a
University of Maryland student ID. If you are interested in taking only
one course, we have simplified the process in that you would apply to the
UMD Grad School as a non-degree seeking student. Please see
https://jpsm.umd.edu/landingtopic/sign-just-one-class for more information.

Feel free to contact Jody Williams (jodywill at umd.edu) if you have any
questions!
