Job description

Department

The Department of Government at the University of Essex is top-ranked in the UK among departments of politics, and a world leader in the interdisciplinary study of environmental policy and management. Professor Gina Yannitell Reinhardt joins Plymouth Marine Laboratories and other academic, public sector, and private industry partners in conducting the MSPACE project. Specifically, researchers at the Department of Government lead the work packages charged with mapping the marine spatial planning (MSP) governance landscape, engaging with key stakeholders, and assessing values and trade-offs in preferences among stakeholders.

Duties of the Role

The MSPACE Project Senior Research Officer will be responsible for providing high quality and efficient support to various areas of the Marine Spatial Planning Addressing Climate Effects (MSPACE) research team to ensure successful delivery of the committed project outputs. There will be a particular focus on gathering and analysing qualitative data to map the structure of governance of the UK marine spatial planning (MSP) process, as well as engaging with key stakeholders to assess values and preferences regarding the MSP process. The post will work in the Department of Government under the supervision and direction of Professor Gina Yannitell Reinhardt, the University of Essex Lead Investigator for MSPACE.

A full list of duties and responsibilities can be found within the job pack.

This post is fixed-term, part-time (27.75 hours per week) until 09 August 2024 due to temporary funding. Appointment will be made as Senior Research Officer.

Skills and qualifications required

The successful candidate will have a relevant degree in an appropriate subject and/or professional experience in a field related to the marine social sciences, including experience of conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection.
