Dear political methodologists:

I received the following announcement with the request that I help spread
the word. I expect the announcement will be of interest to several of you:

I'm Heather Lanthorn, the Program Director for the Social Science Research
Council's new initiative, the Mercury Project (funded by the Rockefeller
Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Craig Newmark
Philanthropies, and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation):
https://www.ssrc.org/programs/the-mercury-project/.

We are offering grants to research teams to address at least one of two
research objectives using rigorous and creative methods over three years:

(1) estimate the causal impacts of mis- and disinformation on online and
offline outcomes in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, including health,
economic, and/or social outcomes, differential impacts across
socio-demographic groups, and quantifying the global costs of those impacts;

(2) estimate the causal impacts of online or offline interventions in the
United States, Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean to
increase uptake of Covid-19 vaccines and other recommended public health
measures by countering mis- and disinformation, including interventions
that target the producers or the consumers of mis- and disinformation, or
that increase confidence in reliable information.

Proposed budgets should be appropriate to cover project costs, with
indirect costs not exceeding 15% of direct costs. There is no maximum award
amount. Teams are welcome to apply for funding for multiple projects;
individuals may be on multiple teams. We are accepting LOIs on a rolling
basis and aim to have a 2-week turnaround time. Since we are accepting,
reviewing, and awarding on a rolling basis, there is some benefit to
submitting sooner rather than later!

If the website and Call for Proposals does not provide the information you
need, please do reach out to [log in to unmask]

Warmly,

Heather
