Dear all,

Please find below a job ad for a Lab Director at the new ETH Zurich branch of the Stanford-Zurich Immigration Policy Lab.

I am happy to answer any questions you might have, and will also be at MPSA later this week to meet in person. Please forward to interested students and colleagues. Thanks!

Best,

Dominik Hangartner

ETH Zurich & London School of Economics

===================

The Public Policy Group and the Immigration Policy Lab at the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences, ETH Zurich, are seeking to appoint a

Lab Director

Our newly established research group, headed by Professor Hangartner, conducts research that employs field and natural experimental methods to quantify the impacts of immigration and integration policies in Europe and other immigrant receiving regions. The goal of the research program is to generate rigorous evidence about what works and what does not when it comes to immigration and integration, and design better policies for immigrants and their host communities. The principal job of the lab director will be to establish, oversee, and coordinate the group’s research objectives and priorities under the supervision of Professor Hangartner. The lab director will provide guidance and supervision to program managers in developing new projects, manage relationships with the affiliated faculty from the Zurich and Stanford branch of the Immigration Policy Lab as well as relevant government agencies and nonprofit organizations, oversee the operating budget, and create a culture and environment of results-based management. Furthermore, she or he will be involved in all aspects of the research including study design, coordinating data collection campaigns, organizing research meetings, and co-author manuscripts for leading peer reviewed journals, white papers, policy briefs, and grant proposals, and disseminating the results to academics, policy makers and the public. The initial appointment will be for one year beginning between August and September 2017, with an expected renewal for more years contingent on satisfactory performance. Salary will be paid according to ETH standards<https://www.ethz.ch/en/the-eth-zurich/working-teaching-and-research/working-conditions/employment-and-salary.html>.

The ideal candidate will have, at the time of appointment, completed a Ph.D. in an economic or social science program, with a preference for Political Science, Economics, or Sociology. She or he should have experience in coordinating collaborative research projects, and running and analyzing field experiments and/or conducting quasi-experimental program evaluations would be highly useful; knowledge of immigration and integration policy in Europe would also be highly valued. Excellent English writing skills are essential. While all work-related interactions are in English, the ability to operate in French or German is also an asset.

For further information about the position please contact the head of the group, Prof. Dr. Dominik Hangartner by email [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> (Subject: ETH Lab Director; no applications).

We look forward to receiving your online application<https://apply.refline.ch/845721/5294/pub/en/index.html>, including a cover letter, CV, graduate school transcripts, a writing sample and at least two letters of recommendation. Additional papers may be requested at a later date. Applicants should be prepared to complete a research design and data analysis exercise as part of the interview process. Please address your application to: ETH Zurich, Olivier Meyrat, Human Resources, CH-8092 Zurich. Applications via email will not be considered. Application review will begin on 21 April 2017 and continue until the position is filled.
