Subject: Call for nominations for Best Paper prize

Dear section chairs,

I'm writing on behalf of the committee that will award the Franklin L.
Burdette/Pi Sigma Alpha prize for best paper presented at the APSA annual
meeting in 2017. Patty Strach, Frank Schimmelfennig, and I are requesting
your help in soliciting nominations for this prestigious prize.

APSA sends out a call for nominations via their general mailing list, but
I've found in years serving on other prize committees that the best way to
encourage submissions is to work through section chairs. It would be
tremendously helpful if you could post a message to your APSA section
portal and/or email your members encouraging your members to nominate
themselves or others for the award. You could, if you like, simply cut and
paste the text below:

Did you present an outstanding paper at the APSA meeting in 2017? Or did
you hear someone else present a paper that you thought deserving of
recognition? We are currently seeking nominations and self-nominations for
the Franklin L. Burdette/Pi Sigma Alpha prize, awarded annually for the
best paper presented at the previous year's annual meeting. The award is
supported by Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honor society, and
carries a prize of $750.

The deadline for nominations is *Monday, February 12, 2018*. To nominate a
paper, simply fill out the on-line form at
https://apsa.wufoo.com/forms/r1yn02ou0mwbis0/.
You'll need the paper presenter's name, the title of the paper, and the
panel and section in which it was presented, all of which can be found in
the program http://web.apsanet.org/apsa2017/online-program/. You'll also
need to have a copy of the paper ready to upload.

APSA-wide prizes like the Burdette/PSA award are prestigious, and can give
an important boost to early-career researchers, in particular. We
appreciate your help in identifying promising work, and look forward to
reviewing the nominated papers.
