The University of East Anglia (www.uea.ac.uk) is advertising a five year post-doctoral fellowship in Quantitative Social Sciences. The call is (almost) open with respect to substantive interest: applicants should propose research that fits within one of three broad areas of study:
- Inequality, Conflict, and Migration;
- Lifespan, Lifestyle, and Decision-making; and
- Environment, Energy, and Security
The fellowship is part of a broader research consortium together with the universities of Kent and Essex (the Eastern ARC).
Full details are pasted below, but can also be found at

We'd particularly welcome applications from female candidates. In addition to the contact listed in the advert, I'd be happy to answer any informal queries you might have, particularly in regard to the position of political science within this consortium.
Best wishes,
Chris Hanretty

Fellowship Opportunity in an exciting new research consortium
Eastern ARC
Eastern Academic Research Consortium is an exciting new collaboration between the Universities of East Anglia, Essex and Kent. The consortium builds upon recent partnership bids for doctoral training awards in the natural and environmental sciences and the arts and humanities, as well as a range of other bilateral research relationships.
Eastern ARC will become a significant new force in research by acting collaboratively and creatively to meet the challenges of research in universities, such as:
· excellence with impact;
· the capacity and competitiveness of the UK research base;
· the economic agenda;
· the efficiency of public spending on research;
· the diversification of funding.
Themes
Eastern ARC will build on strengths in three areas:
· Digital Humanities (led by Kent)
· Quantitative Social Sciences (led by Essex)
· Synthetic Biology (led by UEA)
Quantitative Social Sciences
We are seeking a Post Doctoral Fellow with demonstrated research potential, who wishes to develop an academic career. The Fellow will act as the focus and catalyst for interdisciplinary research in Quantitative Social Science within UEA and will facilitate interaction with the other Eastern ARC partners. The University is not being prescriptive as to the focus of research; instead, the applicant will be asked to submit a research proposal that fits within one of three broad areas, with a plan to develop research collaboration across the three universities and a plan for future funding which will contribute to the longer term success/sustainability of the Eastern ARC. The areas are: Inequality, Conflict, and Migration; Lifespan, Lifestyle, and Decision-making; and Environment, Energy, and Security.
Applications
This post is available from 1 August 2014, initially for a period of five years during which time the Fellow will be supported to gain their own external funding. Interviews will take place in June 2014.
Applications are invited from researchers with an emerging reputation for research leadership.
Salary scale: £32,590 to £36,661.
