A postdoc position is open at The Politics and Evolution (PoNE) Lab at the Department of Political Science and Government, Aarhus University in Denmark.







The PoNE Lab (https://sites.google.com/site/ponelabau/) is dedicated to the investigation of the psychological and biological influences on political decisions. The open position is related to a project on the role of cognitive biases in the processing of political communication. The project seeks to utilize laboratory methods and cross-national surveys for studying whether, how, when and for whom political communication that appeals to evolved, cognitive biases is persuasive.







The project is financed by the Velux Foundation for the period 2014-2017 and is directed by Associate Professor Michael Bang Petersen. In addition to Michael Bang Petersen, the project group consists of Assistant Professor Lene Aarøe, a postdoc (this position) and a PhD candidate. The postdoc position offers attractive conditions for research with the project group and provides access to significant funding for travel and data collection.







The applicant is expected to hold (or be close to completing) a PhD in the field of political psychology, or a related field within political science or psychology. In addition to interest in conducting independent and collaborative research within the focus of the project, the applicant must demonstrate the ability to conduct state-of-the-art research within the field, extensive experience with empirical research in the laboratory, and an excellent command of spoken and written English. The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of or experience with implicit measurement techniques or psychophysiology.







The postdoc position is expected to last 2-3 years starting September 1, 2014 but both duration and starting date can be negotiated. The postdoc position will imply approximately 35% teaching, primarily seminar teaching for MA students in English. Salary is according to the Danish pay schedule (approximately 400.000 DKK (€ 55,000) a year plus pension contribution) with opportunities for reduced taxation.







The PoNE Lab is located at the Department of Political Science and Government, Aarhus University, which is a leading North European department with about 50 faculty members and 1,600 students. Members of the lab are also affiliated with the interdisciplinary Interacting Minds Centre (http://www.interactingminds.au.dk) and has access to outstanding laboratory facilitates.
