Columbia University invites applications for a limited-term position at
the rank of Lecturer in Economics, Political Science, Sociology or
Statistics to begin July 1, 2013. The Lecturer will teach in the
Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences (QMSS) Master's Degree Program
offered through Columbia University's Graduate School of Arts and
Sciences. Initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of
annual renewal for up to three years. Required teaching includes courses
in data analysis geared toward inferential analysis and interdisciplinary
research.
The incumbent will be expected to teach one section of Data Analysis for
the Social Sciences in the Fall and one in the Spring, an advanced,
graduate-level course on probability and statistics, and up to two courses
in the candidate's specialty area in the Spring, as well as all related
course labs. Specialty areas of interest include but are not limited to
Social Network Analysis, Multilevel Modeling, Bayesian Statistics,
Experiments, Data Sciences, Data Visualization, and Missing Data. In
addition, the Lecturer will be expected to serve as thesis advisor to
several QMSS students, advise a number of independent studies each
semester, and run several professional development workshops during the
year. A Ph.D. at the time of appointment and teaching experience at the
post-secondary level required. Teaching at the graduate level preferred.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
