The Washington University Summer Institute on the Empirical Implications of Theoretical Models is an NSF-sponsored program to train junior faculty and graduate students on the problem of testing formal models of politics. This summer’s institute meets June 13-24, 2011. The application deadline is March 11, 2011.

The program website is http://wc.wustl.edu/eitm. You will find seminar listings, application information, and housing information on the website. Five seminars will be held this summer.

The institute is designed for advanced graduate students and junior faculty whose research and teaching would benefit from training seminars on the link between methods of empirical analysis and theoretical models. The 2011 EITM Summer Institute is comprised of five seminars over a two-week period, a basic seminar and four advanced seminars.

Participants selected for this program will receive a $1,000 stipend (taxable income). This will be used to cover their travel, room, and board. Up to 25 subsidies are available for full-time participants currently attending U.S. universities. Participants shall be responsible for any and all costs of living expenses in St. Louis for the two-week program. Funding is provided by the National Science Foundation.

To apply, you must submit a curriculum vita and a 1-2 page statement of the value of the institute for your education and scholarship. We strongly recommend that graduate students submit a transcript of their graduate work and one or two letters of recommendation from faculty advisors. Application materials may be submitted by email to [log in to unmask]

Please do not hesitate to email or call with any questions you have about the program. You can either email your questions to [log in to unmask] or contact Christine Moseley, EITM Administrative Assistant, at (314) 935-5662 or myself at (314) 935-5630.
