The fourth annual SLAMM! meeting will be April 15-16 in 2011. As many of
you who have attended know, we are conveniently and centrally located
right between Boston and San Diego. Last year we had NSF support and 58
attendees making it the most successful St. Louis Area Methods Meeting
yet.

This year we look forward to paper presentations from:

         - Jong He Park (University of Chicago)
         - Minjung Kyung (Washington University)
         - John Jackson (University of Michigan)

as well as discussants: Jake Bowers (University of Illinois,
Urbana-Champaign), Patrick Brandt (University of Texas at Dallas), and
Fred Boehmke (University of Iowa). In addition, Andrew Martin (Washington
University) will give a demo of data collection and management tools for
the Supreme Court Database. See the webpage slamm.wustl.edu for title and
schedule details.

FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS,... we have *again* obtained National Science
Foundation support to add a 1/2 day (9-1 on Saturday with breaks) for
graduate student paper presentations. These are real, 1/2 hour, plenary
presentations, not posters or 8.5 minutes at the national conferences.
Supported graduate students will have their airfare (up to $400) and hotel
expenses reimbursed, as done with the Society's Summer Meeting. And
that's not all! Each of the six presentations will be published in a
future issue of The Political Methodologist (TPM) as a short research note
(a short summary summarizing the longer paper in no more than 750 words,
with at most 2 tables or figures). Past SLAMM! graduate student
presenters will soon be joining the faculties of Rutgers, Stanford,
Georgia State, and elsewhere). Of course ALL interested graduate students
are welcome to attend in addition to those applying for and getting this
support. Brian Gaines (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign) and John
Patty (Washington University) will be moderators for the Saturday session.
See the graduate student link below to apply. The deadline for applying
for this support is March 1, which is fast approaching.

Registration by March 15 is required (only so we can accurately project
food and space budgets; there is never a
registration fee for SLAMM!). The site for faculty is
http://stats.wustl.edu/node/210, and the site for graduate
students is http://stats.wustl.edu/node/222.

We hope to see many of you here in St. Louis. -Jeff
