******** *CONSTITUENCY-LEVEL ELECTIONS (CLE) DATASET ********
******************************************************************

The /Constituency-Level Elections/ (CLE) dataset includes election 
results for nearly 900 elections,
which have occurred in more than 60 countries around the world between 
1945-2006 at the
constituency- or district-level of government. Together these elections 
total over 40,000 electoral
districts and include legislative elections for lower and upper houses 
at the national level of government.
The dataset incorporates a number of sub-national elections as well. The 
results include vote and
seat totals for all parties that participate in elections even if they 
win only one vote. The total number of
political parties in the dataset exceeds 3,000. With very few exceptions 
the data are based on
countries’ official election results amassed from government institutions.
