Pre/Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Harvard-MIT Data Center (HMDC)


We are seeking scholars with a strong background in statistics and
social science for a 1-year fellowship at the Harvard MIT Data Center
(HMDC). While at HMDC fellows will spend a portion of their time
assisting researchers and students with statistical analysis.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the statistics as
applied to social sciecne (e.g. political methodology, econometrics,
sociometrics, psychometrics), statistical programming skills,
communication skills, and substantive research interest that would
allow them to take best advantage of the IQSS research environment.
Experience with the legal profession and legal research, and as a
statistical consultant or teaching fellow in a statistics course is
highly desirable.

Directed by Professor Gary King, HMDC, is the principle supplier of
Social Science Data at Harvard University and MIT, is involved in
developing and supporting the cutting-edge technologies that are
suport the IQSS scientific programs. HMDC is closely integrated with
the Institute for Quantitative Social Sciences, the Department of
Government, the Harvard College Library Social Sciences Program, and
the MIT Social Science Data Services.

Appointments are available for a year (12-month year), with the
possibility of extension. Fellows are expected to work 17.5 hours per
week supporting faculty, students, and staff with statistical
analyses. They receive a salary ($29,000 for a 12-month year for
2008-2009 academic year), full health care benefits, office space,
access to seminars and classes, and access to computer and research
facilities.

your experience with statistical methodology and statistical
computing; an academic vita; a writing sample; any teaching
evaluations if available for statistic courses; and two letters of
recommendation (preferably focusing on both statistical knowledge,
teaching experience and the usual academic merit) to:
