*General:* This position functions as Coordinator for the Social Science 
Computing Center at Emory University, providing strategic direction and 
managing all operations in the Center, as well as providing operational 
support and strategic advice for statistical computing (and GIS) in 
Emory College and the University Technology Services group.

*Specific Job Responsibilities: *

    * Provides ongoing operational support for the Social Science
      Computing Center.
    * Primary liaison responsible for the technical needs of Political
      Science and Sociology Departments in the Social Sciences Computing
      Center.
    * Provide strategic advice on the support of qualitative and
      quantitative statistical software and pedagogy for Emory College,
      UTS, and the University Libraries.
    * Coordinate with other Centers for Educational Technology on
      operations, training, strategy, and computer management.
    * Some training sessions should be offered each year; possible
      topics include using Stata or some other statistical package,
      instruction on collaborative software, introduction to the LaTeX
      typesetting language, and/or instruction on GIS in the social
      sciences (with Michael Page from Woodruff Library).
    * Serve as campus technical contact for SPSS 
    * Serve as campus distribution contact for Stata.
    * Consult with faculty and students, as applicable, on statistical
      methodology, research methods, qualitative methods, interpreting
      statistical results, and similar support of research in the social
      sciences.
    * Oversee one undergraduate assistant.
    * Coordinate with the University Libraries Electronic Data Services
      Center and Geospatial Data Librarian on instructional or research
      support tasks.

 

*Minimum Qualifications:*

A bachelor's degree and five years of experience evaluating, testing 
and/or recommending technology or an equivalent combination of 
education, training and experience. The applicant will have a strong 
background in statistics; strong multiplatform skills with using, 
diagnosing, and re-imaging computers (e.g. using Symantec Ghost, Carbon 
Copy Cloner or LANDesk); and at least some background in social science 
research methods.

The preferred applicant will also have some computer programming skills; 
experience scripting Mac OS X and Unix or Linux; GIS experience; 
specific experience with Stata, SPSS, and R; and an advanced degree in a 
social science discipline.
