\usepackage[polmeth]{beamer} !!

You can set up the external monitor as a side-by-side instead of as a  
mirror, and put a clock app (e.g. http://www.freemacware.com/alarm-clock-2) 
  on your laptop screen and make the external monitor fullscreen  
slideshow in Preview.app.

If you use keynote this can be set up automatically with slide  
previews and a timer on your laptop screen.  It's nice but it's not  
beamer.  Although with LaTeXiT you can easily make equations from  
LaTeX and drag them to your keynote screens.
