The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) is seeking to hire a
statistician or social science analyst to work in its Applied Research
and Methods Team.  GAO's mission is to support the Congress in meeting
its constitutional responsibilities and to help improve the performance
and ensure the accountability of the federal government for the benefit
of the American people.  Incumbents work as members of
multi-disciplinary teams in a variety of subject matter areas including
welfare, education, environmental issues, tax, justice, etc. Major
duties include advising analyst staff on the use of multivariate
modeling and other statistical techniques, performing statistical
analyses, interpreting and presenting statistical results, sample
design and selection, and preparing or reviewing sections of reports
that present sample estimates or the results of statistical analysis.
This position requires a high level of statistical expertise, effective
interpersonal skills, strong organizational abilities, ability to meet
deadlines while working concurrently on multiple projects, and strong
written and oral communications skills.  The salary range is 74,417 -
109,412. GAO offers a comprehensive benefits package.  Relocation
expenses will not be paid.  This position is listed in two job series,
as a Statistician (announcement number GAO-09-ARM-1530-01 ) and as a
Social Science Analyst (announcement number GAO-09-ARM-0101-02).
